Thomas A. Williams, PhD, is a senior assistant professor at the Department of English Studies, University of Szeged, where he teaches sociopragmatics, cross-cultural pragmatics, pragmatics and identity, linguistic anthropology, qualitative research methods and sociocultural theory in second language learning. With an MA in English language teaching, he also holds courses for pre-service EFL teachers, including one on task-based language teaching. In his research, he uses narrative inquiry to study identity construction among language learners. He is currently involved in an international project on agency and post-Covid, in which he collects the experiences of doctors and patients through their narratives. A certified translator, he likewise teaches – and does – specialized translation in a range of genres and subject areas.
